In 1994, at the age of 17, I was admitted to the Music Course at UNICAMP (in Campinas). I was in the fifth group, considering that, when I was admitted, the first one was graduating. There, I had the opportunity to study with great professors, among them: Ciro Pereira, Ulisses Rocha, Hilton Valente (Gogô), José Roberto Zan, Almeida Prado, Jorge Oscar and others. The experience of attending one of the best Universities in Brazil and living the academic life made me have a comprehensive view of the musical world and what being a musician is all about. In late 1997, I graduated and came back to São Paulo.
In spite of being graduated, I’ ve never stopped studying. Among the many private teachers and Festivals, I highlight: Almir Stocker (Alemão), Marcus Teixeira, Jammey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops (2006; professors: Jerry Coker, David Baker, Jammey Aebersold, Dave Styker, Corey Christiansen), 16th Annual Jazz Meeting of the International Association of Schools of Jazz (2006; professor: David Liebman), 33rd Campos do Jordão International Winter Festival (2002; professors: Ary Piassarolo and Hector Costita), 29th and 30th UFMG Winter Festivals (1997 and 1998; professors: Bob Mintzer and José Rua) and Brasilia School of Music International Summer Course (1997; professors: Toninho Horta, Jota Moraes and Manoel Carvalho).
In 2007, I started my Master Degree in Music at UNICAMP, having the Chairman Professor Marcos Cavalcante as professor advisor and jointly supervised by Chairman Professor Ricardo Goldemberg. The title of my dissertation, defended in February 2009, is: João Bosco – Um Cavaleiro e Seu Violão. In this research, I tried to understand how João Bosco created his style of playing guitar. It’s possible to download this dissertation on the site of UNICAMP's Digital Library. Still on this topic I’ve published an article in Revista Brasileira de Estudos da Canção.
In 2011, I was accepted in the PhD Program of UNICAMP. My research is about how the relationships of the participants of a jazz performance are built. In this research, I have the Chairman Professor Ricardo Goldemberg as professor advisor and jointly supervised by Chairman Professor José Roberto Zan. In addition, I am a member of PAM – Pesquisa em Antropologia e Música, a reseach group of Anthropology and Music coordinated by the Chairwoman Professor Rose S. Hikiji (FFLCH/USP).
